LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Endorses Gennifer Geer for Evanston City Council
MARCH 4, 2025, EVANSTON, ILLINOIS – LGBTQ+ Victory Fund - the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ people to public office – has endorsed Gennifer Geer for Evanston City Council. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Geer is well-positioned to win the council race and be a strong voice for equality. If elected, Geer would be the only out LGBTQ+ woman and Asian American on Evanston’s City Council.
“LGBTQ+ Victory Fund is pleased to endorse Gennifer Geer for Evanston City Council,” said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ+ Victory Fund. “I personally taught Gennifer at Rice University, and I’m proud that she has grown from a bright, compassionate student into a progressive leader. Gennifer’s experience in public service and ability to foster collaboration will make her a dedicated advocate for the 3rd Ward. Gennifer’s commitment to inclusive community and progressive values is exactly what Evanston needs in our current political climate.”
LGBTQ+ people remain underrepresented in government nationwide, accounting for 0.25% of US elected officials. Beyond LGBTQ+ equality, Geer would prioritize transparent government, environmental sustainability, and affordability, particularly in housing. Geer will fight for the most marginalized and help Evanston be a leader in the face of a federal administration threatening diversity, inclusion, and acceptance.
Parker is the former Mayor of Houston, Texas, and professor at Rice University, where she instructed Geer in an experiential learning research course on municipal policy. More information about Victory Fund can be found at victoryfund.org.
