2025 elections: City filing period ends with no primaries, three uncontested races
OCTOBER 29, 2024, EVANSTON ROUNDTABLE: The Third Ward race, left open by incumbent Melissa Wynne’s decision to retire after seven terms, gained a third candidate in Gennifer Geer, an outreach coordinator for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and current treasurer of the Democratic Party of Evanston. In an announcement statement provided to the RoundTable, Geer wrote that she achieved a “lifelong dream of moving here” during the COVID-19 pandemic, and centers her campaign on civic engagement, transparency, environmental resilience and “creating a thriving and livable cityscape.”
“I fell in love with this city — from its diverse architecture to charming small businesses to the abundant green space,” Geer wrote. “I want to serve my ward and all its residents, keeping Evanston livable for everyone.”
