3rd Ward Resident Gennifer Geer Enters Race for City Council

OCTOBER 28, 2024, EVANSTON, ILLINOIS – Evanston resident Gennifer Geer has filed nominating petitions with the City of Evanston, declaring her candidacy for City Council Member from Evanston’s 3rd ward.

An Evanston resident for four years, Gennifer has been active in politics for over a decade. As a teenager, she worked with her State Senator on environmental justice around Lake Michigan, advocating for a lakefront protection plan and fighting for state resources to address a neglected nuclear power plant in Zion, Illinois.

Professionally, Gennifer connects environmentalism with public action. She currently works at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and serves as a policy advisor to a renewable energy developer, specializing in benefits to public schools.

Growing up in a military family, Gennifer’s family repeatedly returned to the North Shore, where she built strong childhood memories visiting Evanston’s beaches and parks. She is the daughter of a Japanese immigrant and moved to Evanston to pursue graduate work at Northwestern University, receiving her MA in Asian American history.

“I came to Evanston during the pandemic, fulfilling a lifelong dream of moving here,” said Geer. “I fell in love with this city — from its diverse architecture to charming small businesses to the abundant green space. I want to serve my ward and all its residents, keeping Evanston livable for everyone.”

Gennifer’s campaign centers on promoting civic engagement and transparency, supporting the city’s environmental resilience, and creating a thriving and liveable cityscape.
